How Can You Get Involved?
There are many ways that you can get in there and become proactively involved in helping animals in your community. It starts with simple steps and can involve just you, or your entire family.
Volunteering is a fantastic way to teach children about the value of community and giving and about being a part of something greater than themselves. Its also a valuable way to bond with your family and those around you, and brings about a deep sense of satisfaction into your life.
Did we mention, that volunteering is also essential for animal welfare groups because many are non-profit or community organizations and rely only on volunteers to be able to continue to help the animals that need them.
Have a look around your local area, and identify rescue shelters. They are always looking for kind-hearted folks to walk their animals, work the front desk, answer phones, or clean kennels. Volunteering at your local shelter is an invaluable way you can give back to your local community and make new friends in your area.
Animal Rescue Farms
If your in a rural area, you may have access to agricultural farm facility's that rescue animals such as cows, sheep, horses, pigs and chickens.
Again, many of these are non-profit and need help caring for the animals and the surroundings. Its a fantastic way to get out and get some fresh air, and to touch the hearts of farm animals in need.
Approach your local vet
Many veterinary clinics also provide boarding for animals while their owners are out of town, and these animals need to be exercised daily. Vets usually welcome people who are interested in assisting with exercise and running errands that their paid staff dont have time to do. Why not approach your local vet and see if you can be of any help to them?
Get involved with fundraising
Do you have a local animal welfare organization in your area that needs a hand with fundraising? Perhaps approach them with a fundraising idea and offer to lead the charge in the community with a campaign? It doesn't have to be complicated, it can be as simple as a raffle, where you can sell tickets to a local event or restaurant.
Just remember, non-profits need every cent to continue to help animals in need.
Get involved with local animal charities
There are dozens of local animal charities in the community, all looking for donations, or assistance. It may involve fundraising, or it may be sewing winter coats for animals in winter. Do you sew? Do you knit? Are you able to build top-notch dog kennels or bird houses? All of these things are needed by charities in your area, so scope them out and get involved.
Attend animal events raising awareness
Many established animal welfare organizations welcome community support, and will oftentimes organize marches, or demonstrations or other events to raise awareness of current issues and to pressure for change.
You can register for these events by sourcing an organization that appeals to you and registering for involvement. They will then contact you when events are coming up. Its a great way to meet like-minded people and to rally for change that will benefit animals.
Hand out brochures and flyers in your community
Making a change and getting involved can be as simple as handing out flyers in your local area, you can get flyer packs for welfare groups or you can make your own. Whatever you do, just check with your local council to make sure you don't need any special permits before you start.
The main point is, go peacefully and have fun!
